Family
self storage centre wins award
A
recent award won by self storage centre Storpac does not
mean owners Liz and Colin Davies now get to rest on their
laurels. Already this family run business is thinking
of ways to utilise their 3,100 square metres of roofline
to benefit the environment – such as erecting solar
panels to feed energy back into the electricity grid or
water capture and recycling opportunities.
Last
month, Storpac competed against national storage companies
from Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia to win
the “Best Expansion and Upgrade 2006-07” category
in the Self Storage Association Australasia’s awards
held in Queensland.
Working
as a close family unit, Liz and Colin Davies, with sons
Conrad and Blake, and Manager Mark Wedding have built
a self storage centre that has raised the benchmark for
excellence in storage facilities.
Having
built their first self storage facility in Alice Springs
20 years ago, the Davies family moved to Adelaide six
years ago, and put their energy and ideas into creating
a state-of-the-art storage facility. The business, which
was built in 2002 is situated at 1002 Grand Junction Road,
Holden Hill.
The
complex has many best practice features such as a large
concrete apron to access the roller door storage units,
special climate controlled units with access only from
inside the building so that weather and insect proofing
is assured, and a high level of security features onsite.
The
huge 14,000 sq metre site includes a special lock-up area
for trucks, caravans, boats and cars, as well as 6,200
hectares undercover. The self storage building features
600 units of various sizes and the largest showroom and
specialist moving and packing merchandise store in Australia.
One intriguing feature as you enter the office space is
a reinforced glass floor panel which lets you look down
into the passive climate-controlled lockable wine cellar
that holds over 10,000 bottles.
Liz
Davies said “the family was thrilled with the win
as it showed successful innovation isn’t just the
premise of large corporate storage companies.
“Our
family business has blended together the imagination of
our sons with our experience in Alice Springs where we
set up our first self-storage facility that is still operational.
“Our
customers all wish to maximise their living and garage
space but want a high level of security for their assets.
Our seven day a week business provides this security,
and we plan to improve on the services and facilities
that our customers are looking for.”
